The Jewellers Journal: February in the Workshop: Sunshine Proposals, Sparkling Stones, and a Hint of Chaos
February has been a whirlwind in the workshop, and not just because of Valentine’s Day. This is the time of year when engagement‑ring season truly kicks in. A lot of our customers are already planning their summer proposals, and honestly, who can blame them? Sunsets, sandy beaches, and a ring you’ve had designed especially for the moment… it’s hard to beat.
With 30% off engagement rings in both of our stores, we’ve also had a steady stream of resizing jobs as pieces leave the shop ready for their forever homes. It’s been busy, but the good kind of busy, the kind that smells faintly of polishing compound and romance.
A Polishing Marathon on the Horizon
Our latest newsletter included an offer for a free clean and polish on any ring throughout March, which means one thing: Rachael and I will be heading home each night this month looking like we’ve been moonlighting as chimney sweeps. It’s all worth it, though. These appointments give us the chance to carry out a quick ring health check, offer advice, and make sure your jewellery is in top condition...

Naming Our New Birthstone Bracelet Range
Last month, we ran a little online competition to name the new birthstone bracelet range Rachael designed. Our customers chose “Forever Linked”, and we couldn’t be happier with it. Orders have already started coming in for both silver and 9ct yellow gold versions, and they’re looking beautiful.
A Visit from a World-Class Gemologist
We were also lucky enough to welcome one of the world’s leading gemologists into the shop this month. They spent time with the team, sharing insights on selecting the very best stones for our collections. We pride ourselves on sourcing exceptional gems; sapphires, rubies, emeralds… you name it, we probably have it tucked away somewhere.
The staff tease me endlessly because I’m a complete pushover for tourmalines. The colours are incredible, and the bi‑coloured stones? Don’t get me started. There’s even a running joke that I’ve single‑handedly caused a global tourmaline shortage because I “can’t stop buying them.” I’ve now been banned from seeing stone dealers unsupervised. Probably for the best.
