Sapphire: September’s Birthstone and One of Nature’s Most Colourful Gems

Sapphire: September’s Birthstone and One of Nature’s Most Colourful Gems

September belongs to one of our favourite gemstones: Sapphire. Elegant, timeless and incredibly durable, sapphires have been treasured for centuries and remain one of the most popular choices for engagement rings and fine jewellery.

When most people hear the word sapphire, they immediately picture a deep royal blue stone. While blue sapphires are certainly the most well-known, they’re only part of the story. One of the things we love most about sapphires is just how wonderfully colourful they can be.

Sapphires Aren’t Just Blue

This is one of the biggest surprises for many of our customers.

Sapphires naturally occur in a whole spectrum of colours, including pink, yellow, green, orange, purple, white and even peach. Every colour is created by tiny trace elements that become trapped inside the gemstone as it forms deep within the earth over millions of years.

It’s a fascinating piece of geology that creates an incredible variety of stones, each with its own character and beauty. So, whether you love a classic blue sapphire or something a little more unexpected, there really is a sapphire for everyone.

Learning More So We Can Share More

At The Jewellers Guild, we believe the more we know, the better advice we can give our customers.

That’s why Matt, one of our directors, has recently completed an intensive Level 4 Certificate in Gemmology dedicated to understanding the science behind gemstones. It’s given us an even deeper understanding of how gemstones form, what makes each stone unique, and how to help customers choose the right piece with confidence.

We love being able to explain not just what you’re looking at, but why a gemstone looks the way it does. It’s all part of helping you make an informed choice.

One of the North East’s Largest Coloured Stone Collections

We’re incredibly proud to stock one of the largest, most diverse collections of coloured gemstones in the North East.

From classic blue sapphires to unusual pinks, yellows and greens, alongside emeralds, rubies, spinels, tourmalines and so much more, our collection is carefully chosen to offer something a little different.

Whether you’re looking for a birthstone gift, a unique engagement ring, or simply a piece that stands out from the crowd, there’s always something special to discover.

Celebrating Sapphire Season

As September’s birthstone, there’s no better time to explore the world of sapphires. They’re beautiful, incredibly versatile and full of personality, proving that this much-loved gemstone is so much more than just blue.

If you’ve never seen the full range of sapphire colours in person, pop into our Morpeth or Whitley Bay store. We’d love to show you why sapphires are one of our favourite gemstones to work with.
